Be A Buddy Program

Heat waves have dramatically intensified and are becoming more frequent, posing health risks for some populations. During extreme heat events, these neighbors may benefit from having somebody check in with them to make sure they are okay and have what they need.

Why now

The heat is rising — and some people feel it more than others

People who are older, very young, with certain underlying medical conditions, or without air conditioning are at higher risk.

Older individuals are at higher risk due to lower sweat production, weakened awareness of heat, and other common health conditions.

Social support has been proven to reduce the risk of heat exhaustion in older individuals.
